Siglo is a wine with a lot of history.
Its origin dates back to 1927 in AGE, one of Rioja’s historic wineries, the oldest winery in Fuenmayor. Siglo brand pays tribute to the time that Rioja wine had been among the people of the town (S.XVIII). It was not until the end of the Spanish Civil War that the emblem of the brand was born: the Siglo Saco. The sack was an innovative jute cover, inspired by the Rioja tradition in which workers, who worked in the fields all day from dawn, wrapped the wine bottle with a damp cloth to keep the wine fresh. Today, Siglo continues this tradition in collaboration with Asprodema, an NGO that promotes people with intellectual disabilities, which covers the bottles by hand with the Sack.
In addition to these references that we proudly maintain in the range, the Siglo family is completed with a new and elegant image, preserving the characteristic elements of the brand.
Siglo is one of the most internationally recognized and awarded brands in the Spanish wine sector. Precisely, Siglo rosé has just been chosen as the best rosé in Spain in the prestigious European Mundus Vini contest. Siglo Gran Reserva 2015 hs recently been recognized with 94 points Wine Enthusiast and Siglo Crianza 2019 with 92 points Wine Enthusiast, the number one opinion leader.
The Siglo brand is owned by Bodegas Manzanos since 2018. At the time of the acquisition, the winery relaunched the brand, redefining the style of the wine to make the iconic Rioja a wine characterized by the blend of vines from different parcels of the denomination and the height of the iconic brand we’ve all known for generations past.
