Fils d\u2019agriculteur, j\u2019ai grandi en entendant ma m\u00e8re dire que les deux saisons cl\u00e9s pour une bonne productivit\u00e9 agricole sont l\u2019automne et le printemps. Cette ann\u00e9e, la nature a suivi ce sch\u00e9ma, mais elle nous a aussi rappel\u00e9 que, \u00e0 la campagne, les exc\u00e8s ne sont jamais de bons alli\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

L\u2019automne dernier a \u00e9t\u00e9 particuli\u00e8rement pluvieux, ce qui a compliqu\u00e9 la fin des vendanges. L\u2019hiver est rest\u00e9 dans les moyennes, mais le printemps a \u00e9t\u00e9 le plus pluvieux dont je me souvienne. Et bien que cela devrait, en th\u00e9orie, annoncer une grande ann\u00e9e, l\u2019exc\u00e8s de pr\u00e9cipitations a en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 un d\u00e9fi important tant pour les c\u00e9r\u00e9ales que pour la vigne.<\/p>\n

\"VignoblePluviom\u00e9trie durant le cycle : mars : 85 l\/m\u00b2, avril : 70 l\/m\u00b2, mai : 36 l\/m\u00b2, juin : 80 l\/m\u00b2.<\/p>\n

Ces chiffres, associ\u00e9s \u00e0 un d\u00e9bourrement l\u00e9g\u00e8rement plus pr\u00e9coce que d\u2019habitude, ont entra\u00een\u00e9 un d\u00e9veloppement v\u00e9g\u00e9tatif tr\u00e8s vigoureux. La vigne a produit une masse foliaire importante, id\u00e9ale pour la maturation du raisin, mais aussi plus sensible aux maladies si elle n\u2019est pas g\u00e9r\u00e9e avec pr\u00e9cision.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Nous observons un d\u00e9veloppement v\u00e9g\u00e9tatif tr\u00e8s vigoureux qui, s\u2019il est id\u00e9al pour la maturation, augmente \u00e9galement le risque de maladies.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Le protagoniste ind\u00e9sirable de l\u2019ann\u00e9e : le mildiou<\/h3>\n

Les conditions de forte humidit\u00e9 et les temp\u00e9ratures mod\u00e9r\u00e9es ont favoris\u00e9 l\u2019apparition du mildiou, le champignon le plus redout\u00e9 des viticulteurs cette saison.<\/p>\n

La gestion au vignoble a \u00e9t\u00e9 intense : nous avons travaill\u00e9 en profondeur la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation afin de maintenir les grappes aussi a\u00e9r\u00e9es que possible et ainsi garantir l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 des traitements.<\/p>\n

Juillet a \u00e9t\u00e9 plus frais que la normale, ce qui a favoris\u00e9 le travail de la plante gr\u00e2ce aux r\u00e9serves hydriques accumul\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

La combinaison d\u2019un climat frais, de r\u00e9serves d\u2019eau et d\u2019une charge de fruits r\u00e9duite pourrait raccourcir la p\u00e9riode de maturation et avancer l\u00e9g\u00e8rement le d\u00e9but des vendanges.<\/p>\n

Nous faisons face \u00e0 une ann\u00e9e difficile, marqu\u00e9e par la pression du mildiou, une forte pluviom\u00e9trie et une fertilit\u00e9 naturelle r\u00e9duite. Cependant, si le travail au vignoble a \u00e9t\u00e9 constant et rigoureux \u2014comme cela a \u00e9t\u00e9 le cas chez Bodegas Manzanos\u2014, nous pouvons esp\u00e9rer une r\u00e9colte plus faible, mais d\u2019une qualit\u00e9 exceptionnelle.<\/p>\n

A demanding year, but with great quality potential<\/h2>

As the son of a farmer, I grew up hearing my mother say that the two key seasons for good agricultural productivity are autumn and spring. This year, nature followed that pattern, but also reminded us that, in the countryside, excess is never a good ally.<\/p>

Last autumn was especially rainy, which complicated the end of the harvest. Winter remained within the average, but spring has been the rainiest I can remember. And although, in theory, this should herald a great year, the truth is that the excess rainfall has posed a significant challenge for both cereals and vineyards.<\/p>

These figures, combined with slightly earlier budding than usual, have led to very vigorous vegetative growth. The vine has produced a large leaf mass, ideal for ripening the grapes, but also more susceptible to disease if not managed precisely.<\/p>

The unwanted protagonist of the year: downy mildew<\/h3>

High humidity conditions and moderate temperatures have favored the appearance of downy mildew, the most feared fungus by winegrowers this season.<\/p>

Field management has been intense: we\u2019ve worked thoroughly on the vegetation to keep the grapes as airy as possible and thus ensure the effectiveness of treatments.<\/p>

Vegetative cycle and harvest forecast<\/h3>

Budding, especially in Chardonnay, was somewhat early, but the rest of the cycle has developed as usual. July has been cooler than normal, which has favored the vine\u2019s work thanks to the accumulated water reserves.<\/p>

We\u2019ve also observed lower bud fertility, resulting in fewer grape clusters per vine, and of smaller size.<\/p>

The combination of cool weather, water reserves, and lower fruit load could shorten the ripening period and slightly bring forward the start of the harvest.<\/p>

Conclusion:<\/h3>

This is a challenging year, marked by downy mildew pressure, high rainfall, and lower natural fertility. However, if fieldwork has been consistent and rigorous \u2014as it has been at Bodegas Manzanos\u2014 we can expect a smaller harvest, but of extraordinary quality.<\/p>
